Murray Personal Bankruptcy and Paducah Business Bankruptcy Attorney

Murray personal bankruptcy attorney Steve D. Vidmer recognizes that making the decision to file for bankruptcy may be one of the most challenging choices you will make in your life. While the decision is significant, it doesn't have to be daunting.

Our team will help you understand your eligibility for each type of bankruptcy and work with you to determine what is in your best interests.

We invite you to learn more about your debt relief options by visiting our Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy pages.

Filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
When you have decided to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, Steve D. Vidmer will work with you to run a credit report and set up a credit counseling appointment before and after you file for bankruptcy.
After completing and properly formatting the appropriate legal documents, we will file them electronically with the court. Four to six weeks after your filing date, we will attend your creditors meeting together with your bankruptcy trustee.
Typically, it takes 60 days after your creditors' meeting to discharge your debt under Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Filing for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy
Filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy involves a slightly different process than Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Along with preparing and formatting the appropriate legal documents, Steve D. Vidmer will work with you to create a proposed Chapter 13 repayment plan that will determine your payments to a bankruptcy court for the next three to five years. During your creditors' meeting, your bankruptcy trustee may propose changes to the plan. The court will then examine the plan and confirm it.
After your repayment plan has been approved, it will go into effect on a month-by-month basis for a certain period of time, requiring you to make monthly payments to pay off your current debt.

While filing for bankruptcy may temporarily negatively affect your credit score, it is important to remember that if you are behind in your credit card, mortgage and car payments, your score is likely very low already. After bankruptcy, if you have sufficient income and make regular payments on secured loans, your credit score will improve in as early as 12 to 24 months.
